To make a Sawgrass Mills rug, first the pattern is stenciled onto a waterproof synthetic canvas that has been stretched over a wooden frame. Then the oriental craftsmen hand hook the Duracord yarns into this base fabric to bring life to the design using rudimentary tools as has been done for centuries.

After several craftsmen have spent days meticulously hand hooking the design, waterproof glue is spread over the back of the rug to lock the yarns in place and to laminate a more rigid mesh to give the rug the stability to maintain its shape. Lastly, the excess base cloth is trimmed and folded under the rug to provide a clean durable edge. Hand made rugs are:
